What is a Herd Share?
In North Carolina, it is not legal to sell raw milk for human consumption. However, through a herd share agreement, individuals can legally access raw milk by becoming part owners of a dairy herd. Instead of purchasing milk, you’re purchasing a share in our herd—and as a partial owner, you're entitled to a portion of the milk produced.
Why We Offer a Herd Share
We believe in the health benefits of fresh, unprocessed milk from healthy, pasture-raised cows. Herd shares allow us to provide our community with raw milk in a legal and transparent way, while honoring the deep connection between land, animals, and nourishment. How Our Herd Share Works
Initial Buy-In
To join, there is a one-time fee of $10 per share. This “buy-in” covers:
Your starter bottling kit (half-gallon mason jars with lids)
Your ownership share in the herd for the current lactation cycle
Weekly Herd Maintenance Fee
As a herd share member, you’ll pay a weekly fee to cover the cost of caring for the cows, milking, and bottling your portion of the milk:
$10/week for one gallon of milk
$5/week for a half gallon of milk
This weekly fee ensures your cows are well-fed, loved, and milked with care.
Pickup Details
Milk is available for pickup once a week on your designated pickup day, right here at the farm. You're welcome to come anytime on that day at your convenience. You might even spot our dairy girls—Dolly, Hershey, Clara-Belle, Mavis and Livie—grazing in the pasture when you arrive.
About Our Cows
Our cows are 100% grass-fed and spend their days freely roaming and grazing on open pasture. The only time they receive any grain is during milking, and we use a certified organic, soy-free grain and alfalfa blend to support their health during this time.
